FAQs
“Do you have to be Vietnamese to be in Celerity?”
No! As long as you show interest in Vietnamese culture and want to learn more about it through dance, we will always welcome you.
“I have never danced before? Will I struggle to keep up with Celerity’s choreo?”
While pick up speed can vary from one another, we try to make choreo that accommodates to all levels regardless of experience while also growing their dance skills. Our auditions gauge our dancers’ strengths and weaknesses, and then we implement them into our pieces. We also hold private office hours if necessary and requested.
“I want to participate, but I can’t make it to their practice times? How can I still be involved?”
Our practice times are every Sunday from 1-4pm in Esh 10 or Esh 240 depending which room is free. If this time does not work, you can stay updated on our Instagram for any workshops that are open to non-members. We also have an auditing option as well (must attend practices) where you can learn our set pieces and potentially fill in for official members if they are unable to perform.
“Is Celerity strictly traditional dance? Do you intend to use any other dance styles?”
“Do we have to pay club dues?”
Yes. Our dances mainly lie on contemporary, ballet, and classical Vietnamese dance. However, our workshops cover both cultural and open style dance (see Instagram). We occasionally dance to V-Pop (ex. our umbrella/handkerchief dance), but the dances still rely on classical Vietnamese dance fundamentals. Please watch our performance videos on YouTube for a better reference of our dance style. Our music will mainly consist of Vietnamese traditional instrumentals.
Nope! Celerity does not require club dues, and transportation and food will be covered! The only things we charge are pitch ins for each members’ birthday gift as tradition (around $5 depending on the gift; optional) and DWX and AFX tickets (each participating group member must pay $32 for 2 tickets and then sell them for the same price). If the payment is a concern, we can definitely work something out so do not worry!
